The 2nd of July

This year, I celebrated Independence Day on the second of July, along with the rest of the city of Logan. Logan enjoys putting on its fireworks show the day before most of the "big" shows in Salt Lake so that more people will come. Papa Doo Run-Run performed. Although I was not in the stadium, I still heard them over the radio. They sang songs from the Beach Boys, and I can only imagine that they were wearing some Hawaii shirts and maybe even flowers. They were pretty awful, but still, it was the second of July and not even Papa Doo Run-Run could get us down. We selected our spot early, got some pizza, and went up to play some games.

At first we just settled in, opened our rootbeers, and passed around some slices of pizza. People kept trying to pass us with their baby strollers. I guess we were situated somewhat awkwardly, being on the sidewalk. Still, we enjoyed the view and the $5 pizza from Little Caeser's.

We played a Jamaican card game that was a lot like Shanghai, a game I used to play on my mission. I didn't do very well, though. And we didn't really finish the game. Then we played Mad Gab. The sunlight was fading, so we had a hard time reading the words that combined together to form something completely different. So we put the cards away and resituated ourselves. Fireworks. An explosion of light, and I kept trying to think what that explosion would feel like if it was coming from inside of me. What could make me explode in that dazzling array of color?
